About Faculty

Today we can state that the Faculty of Media Communications and Tourism (FMCT) has formed some traditions responding to the spirit of the University.

Taking into account the University’s professional orientation, the Faculty gives special emphasis to specific character of Cinematography, Television, Show Business and Mass Media in training students for modern Business Communications and State and Municipal Administration. Students make short-length films, participate in contests and win prizes at different competitions.

The Faculty holds the MEDIAKIT  yearly contest in which many higher educational institutions of the city take part. Also it has become a tradition to arrange the Russian Student Forum on PR in Film and Television (PRКiТ) at the Faculty where more than 500 students from different cities and towns of Russia participate. The Forum’s programme includes workshops of famous PR and Mass Media figures, communicative trainings, business games and excursions. Such events offer students an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and abilities to the managers of leading media organisations including members of independent competent jury. Winners are offered either permanent cooperation or assigned certain kinds of work according to their results.

Students at the Faculty have got a chance to take educational or pre-diploma practice in the Dom Radio (House of Radio), the Oktyabrskiy Big Concert Hall, Lenfilm, Lennauchfilm (Leningrad Research Film Studio), Information Agency ITAR TASS (ИТАР ТАСС), ROSBALT (РОСБАЛТ), Legislative Assembly of Saint-Petersburg.

Student Scientific Society is working enthusiastically. Conferences are held and the best faculty students’ and lecturers’ articles are regularly published in scientific collections. FMC students are likely to be mobile and take a constant interest in their profession, and it is being confirmed by steady academic success.
