Our students visited the International Congress of Broadcasters IBC2018 in Amsterdam

On September 13-18, the largest in Europe International Congress of Broadcasters IBC 2018 (International Broadcasting Convention) was held in Amsterdam (Netherlands). 15 halls with 1700 exhibitors from 170 countries, 57,000 visitors during the week of the exhibition, 400 professional speakers - all this turned out to be a reality for students of the St. Petersburg University of Film and Television

Young professionals who won the competition "Digital and Information Technologies in the Electronic Media Industry-2018" received grants for a fully paid trip to Amsterdam at IBC 2018 to learn about the latest trends in the media, entertainment and technology.

This year, in the student delegation from Russia entered Anastasia Safronova (Faculty of Screen Arts, Department of Operational Arts, 4th year), Andrey Shmorgunov (Faculty of Multimedia Technologies and Photography, Department of Cinema and Video Technology, 4th year) and Ivan Lyapin (Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University, Faculty of Radiotechnics and Telecommunications, Department of television, 4th year).

During the trip the students had time to attend the lectures of the IBC, which interested them, where they discussed issues of the future of the industry, exhibition stands of the world's largest companies, the IABM Award ceremony, reviews and screenings of Big Screen movies. Also, the guys were shooting a report video about IBC2018.

During the congress, a student team from Russia recorded interviews with representatives of the main IBC owners: IEEE BTS President William T. Heis, IABM Executive Director Peter White, Royal Television Society Director General Theresa Wise, a representative of the Society of Cable Communications Engineers (Society of Cable Telecommunication Engineers, SCTE) and Thomas Baus Mason of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE).

The students also managed to speak with Professor David Crawford from the University of Essex and the University of Ravensbourne in London (UK). As a producer of IBC2018 Future Zone, he conducted a short excursion for young specialists from Russia.

IBC 2018 Future Zone has brought together the latest ideas, innovations and conceptual technologies from scientists, engineers and workers of the international broadcasting industry. In a specially organized exhibition space, BBC research and development, 8K Super Hi-Vision technology from the Japanese broadcasting corporation NHK, research project Live360TV, revolutionary Liquid Cinema software, allowing to create very complex cinematographic videoclips using VR, and many others were demonstrated.
