Students of St. Petersburg State University of Film and Television became winners and laureates of the All-Russian Internet competition of acting and vocal skills "FERMATA"

29 May 2020

The results of the All-Russian Internet competition of acting and vocal skills "FERMATA" are summed up. The initiators of the song competition were the vocal teachers of the acting department of the St. Petersburg State University of Film and Television. In addition to students of our university, citizens of Russia, Finland and China, students of Russian educational institutions, including Petrozavodsk State Conservatory named after A.K. Glazunov, Moscow State Conservatory named after P.I. Tchaikovsky, Institute of Contemporary Art (Moscow), Moscow State Theater College named after L.A. Filatov, Choir College named after M.I. Glinka (St. Petersburg).

One of the important tasks of training actors has always been vocal art, therefore, high-level specialists are involved in working with students in this area. It is not for nothing that teachers pay great attention to the development of the traditions of professional musical art, the art of theater and cinema. It is these skills that help graduates to get a job in their specialty. Such competitions have not yet been held in the format of the online competition of acting and vocal skills. In connection with the coronavirus pandemic, department specialists are forced to look for new forms of work and options for remote stimulation of students to identify new musical talents among students of creative universities. So the idea of a creative song contest was born.

Out of 7 nominations, students of our university were awarded with diplomas of the 1st degree:

Dmitry Fedorov (3rd year),

Olga Emelyantseva (2nd year)

Dmitry Shtin (2nd year).

The following students are awarded with diplomas of 2nd and 3rd degrees:

Pavel Vasyanin and Daria Udoratina,

Andrey Romanov and Maria Eremenko (2nd year),

Ulyana Nikulina and Sergey Tupoguz (duet)

Daria Teplova (3rd year)

The chairman of the jury, a member of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia, a member of the Union of Composers of Russia, associate professor of the acting department of the St. Petersburg State University of Film and Television, Vladislav Viktorovich Panchenko, noted the high level of mastery of students:

- A very good level of musical background was shown by our students at the competition. Given that we had to compete with students of musical universities, where students are engaged in vocals professionally, our future actors looked very decent and the jury received high marks deservedly. The decision of all members of the jury, which included experts, qualified teachers and musicians, was unambiguous. A high level of training of participants, including students of our university, was noted!

Candidate of Art Criticism, Associate Professor of the Department of Acting at St. Petersburg State Institute of Film and Television, Jury Member Valeria Nikolaevna Darda emphasized that the victory in the nomination “Song of Victory” indicates that our students were diligently preparing for the traditional concert in honor of the 9 May holiday, but, unfortunately, had no opportunity to fully demonstrate it:

- Due to the well-known situation in the country and in the world, our students were not able to take part in the events dedicated to the Victory Day, although some performances and even concert programs were being prepared by students of the 2nd and 3rd years of study. It is very pleasant that sophomore Dmitry Shtin became the winner of the Victory Song nomination. This means that the students worked purposefully on the subject of the nomination and their victory was deserved!

I must say that the participants took the online contest very seriously. A lot of works were sent to the jury. Two participants sent recordings of the whole concert with a great timing of their performances. Today, readers can watch the competitive works of winners in the nominations, following the links below and evaluate the performances of our students independently:
