«A Russian Youth» receives the Nika Russian Film Award

On April 25, Nika Film Award ceremony took place in Moscow. The prizes were awarded for two years (there was no award ceremony last year). The jury named the film “A Russian Youth” as the “Discovery of the Year”. A cinematographer of the film was Airat Yamilov, a graduate of St. Petersburg State University of Film and Television of 2013 (a workshop of Eduard Rozovsky, Sergey Astakhov and Aleksey Grebenkov) and a sound designer of the film was Andrei Fonin, a graduate of our university of 2006 (workshop of Vladimir Persov and Sergey Dementyev).

"A Russian Youth" is the story of a boy who enlists in the Army and gets blind during the war. It is filmed with visual expressiveness and a special concept. Airat Yamilov, a graduate of the Faculty of Screen Arts, has worked on short and full-length films («Sofichka» (2016), «A Russian Youth» (2018), «Palmira» (2020)).

Aleksandr Sokurov's Fund for Cinematography Support «Example of Intonation» produced the film «A Russion Youth» with the participation of the Lenfilm film studio. Aleksandr Zolotukhin, a graduate of the first workshop of Aleksandr Sokurov, directed the film.

The Nika national film prizes have been awarded since 1988. The ideologists of the award are Viktor Merezhko (the chair of the Board of Trustees of the St. Petersburg State University of Film and Television) and director Yuli Gusman. A secret ballot of the members of the Russian Academy of Cinema Arts and Science determines the winners.
