52.05.01 Actor's Art

Professional consultation:
Professional consultations are held before entrance examinations to orient applicants. Testing the readiness for the creative entrance examinations (reciting of a fable, piece of prose, poem). Fulfilment of special tasks to test creative individuality and skills at stage (performing of a song, dance).
Creative entrance examinations:
1. Creative examination (interview). Testing of acting and creative abilities: reciting a poem, fable, piece of prose. An applicant may be asked to perform some special tasks, like acting in improvisational sketches to perform a simple action in the given circumstances.
2. Professional examination (interview). Acting a sketch on a given subject. The story should be complete, contain an idea, conflict, characters of protagonists and author's vision.
3. Interview. Testing the general culture of an applicant to reveal his or her interest in the history of world and national cinematography, theatre, music, literature, fine arts. Assessment of storyteller's skills. Testing the musicality of an applicant, musical ear, sense of rhythm, coordination of movement, artistry of motion, flexibility and other qualities required for the vocation of an actor.

52.03.06 Dramaturgy (Bachelor's Degree)

Portfolio of creative works:
- literary texts: narrative, short stories, sketches, essays, scripts, review of a film;
- autobiography written in a free literary form.
Creative entrance examinations:
1. Professional examination (written work). Writing a scenario or sketch on one of given subjects.
2. Creative examination (written work). Writing a review of a film watched in class.
3. Interview. Testing the general culture of an applicant to reveal his or her interest in the cinematography, film dramaturgy, literature, theatre, fine arts, music. Questions on the content of the portfolio of creative works.

52.04.02 Dramaturgy (Master’s Degree)

Portfolio of creative works:
- literary texts: narrative, short stories, sketches, essays, scripts, review of a film;
- autobiography written in a free literary form.
Creative entrance examinations:
1. Professional examination (written work). Writing a scenario on one of given subjects.
2. Interview. Testing the general culture of an applicant to reveal his or her interest in the cinematography, film dramaturgy, literature, theatre, fine arts, music. Questions on the content of the portfolio of creative works.

55.05.01 Film and TV Directing

Specialization: Director of Fiction Film and TV Film
Portfolio of creative works:
Autobiography written in a free form; short fiction film script; review of a modern Russian film. It’s an advantage but not compulsory to have: short stories; requests for scripts of short or full-length fiction films; drawings, photos, photocopies of paintings, sculptures, objects of design or architectural projects; CDs with films, animations, music of an applicant.
Creative entrance examinations:
1. Interview. Testing the interest of an applicant to the history of world and national cinematography, its stages, key figures of film directors, actors, composers, screenwriters, cameramen. Assessment of the ability to analyse favourite films. Testing the capacity for imagination and associative thinking of an applicant. The applicant should be ready to analyse the content of a picture or photo shown to him or her and invent a story. Questions on the content of the portfolio of creative works.
2. Professional examination (written work). Script writing of a feature film on a given subject.
3. Creative examination (interview). Testing the acting and directing skills: reciting a fable, verses, piece of prose. Staging a sketch performance.

Specialization: Director of Non-Fiction Film and TV Film
Portfolio of creative works:
Autobiography written in a free literary form; literary scenario on a remarkable event in social life, science or cultural life of any era; video and photo-works representing a focus of interest of an applicant.
Creative entrance examinations:
1. Interview. Testing an applicant's interest in the history of world and national non-fiction cinematography; identifying the level of his or her education and knowledge of cultural traditions. Questions on the content of the portfolio of creative works.
2. Professional examination (written work). Writing a directing work on a given subject.
3. Creative examination (interview). Testing the acting and directing skills: reciting of a fable, verses, piece of prose. Staging a sketch.

Specialization: Director of Animation and Computer Graphics
Portfolio of creative works:
Literary texts: stories, essays, scripts of animated films; painting, graphics, drawing, photo stories, storyboarding of future films including computer graphics. It is possible to submit sketches of costumes and set design but these works are not compulsory. Autobiography written in a free literary form.
Creative entrance examinations:
1. Interview. Testing an applicant’s interest to the world and national cinematography and animation, literature, theatre, fine arts, architecture and music. Questions on the content of the portfolio of creative works.
2. Professional examination. Drawing a storyboard on a given subject. Drawing "a picture of a happened event" on a given subject limited by the world of objects only, without human beings and animals.
3. Creative examination. Momentary (snap) drawing of associative pictures (images) on given words. Drawing of key moments on a given topic. Drawing a given character from different angles (front, three-quarters, back view) and the character in dynamics.

Specialization: Director of Multimedia
Portfolio of creative works:
Autobiography written in a creative form; written work on the topic "An event or occasion that you witnessed or participated in"; review of a famous feature film or computer game; in addition, an applicant may submit creative works of any genre: painting, graphics, photography, video, storyboards of future computer games, interactive projects, multimedia projects, etc. (including the works created with computer and recorded on CD, DVD or USB flash drive).
Creative entrance examinations:
1. Interview. Testing the general culture of an applicant, his or her interests, preferences and knowledge on literature, painting, music, theatre, screen arts (cinematography and television) and multimedia. Questions on the content of the portfolio of creative works. Fulfilling small creative tasks.
2. Professional examination (written work). Writing a story which could be used as the basis for a feature or animated film, computer game. The story should be based on given fragments describing its beginning, culmination or end.
3. Creative examination (interview). Testing of directing and acting abilities: performing a fable, poem, piece of prose; staging a sketch on a given topic.

55.05.02 Sound Production of Audio-visual Arts

Portfolio of creative works:
An abstract written on a subject given by the department; autobiography.
Creative entrance examinations:
1. Professional examination (music examination). Testing general musical literacy; aural test of all musical intervals; testing an ear for music; general musical erudition; solfeggio; musical memory; knowledge of musical literature, history and theory of music (oral examination).
2. Creative examination (written work). Review of an audiovisual work (film, video).
3. Interview. Testing the general culture and the horizon of an applicant, his or her erudition, assessment of creative inclinations. Questions on the content of the portfolio of creative works.

55.05.03 Cinematography

Portfolio of creative works:
- applicant’s photos of different genres (digital or/and on black-and-white and colour film): portrait photos, nature morte, landscapes, etc. The format of the photos should not be less than 18х24 cm, printed with frames or fixed on a mat. The format of works is 30x40 cm only. The works should be singed on the reverse side (name, surname only). 25 - 30 photos in total.
- autobiography written in a vivid and literary form preferably.
Photo-works and autobiography should also be submitted in digital form on CD/DVD enclosed in the portfolio of creative works. Creative entrance examinations:
1. Creative examination ("Practice of photo shooting"). Shooting photos in the pavilion (portrait, nature morte, plaster sculptures) and on location (at the choice of an applicant: genre, documentary portrait or reportage photography, urban landscape). Features of the entrance examination are determined by the Programme of Entrance Examinations for the specialty "Cinematography".
2. Professional examination (theory of photography). Oral examination is conducted on the basis of examination questions. The questions cover the basic information on photography as a type of creativity and technology of photographic processes. Discussion of the photo-works taken during the practice of photo shooting.
3. Interview. Testing the general culture and the horizon of an applicant, his or her knowledge on artistic and technical issues of photography, cinematography and television; history of culture, photography and cinematography (the history of development, artistic and technical aspects), domestic cinematography, fine arts, painting, sculpture and graphics. Discussion of artistic solutions of the works submitted in the portfolio of an applicant and at the creative examination ("Practice of photo shooting").

55.05.04 Producing

Portfolio of creative works:
Autobiography written in a free form (must be written in advance and handed in during the examination).
Creative entrance examinations:
1. Creative examination (interview). Testing the general culture of an applicant, his or her knowledge on modern Russian cinematography and television. Discussion of an applicant's autobiography.
2. Professional examination (written analysis of a synopsis). Erudition, ability to think logically and creative abilities will be evaluated.

55.05.05 Film Studies

Portfolio of creative works:
Two sketches: analysis of a film; analysis of a director's or actor's creative work.
Autobiography written in a free literary form.
Creative entrance examinations:
1. Professional examination (written work). Essay on a film watched in class. The essay must reveal the system of images used in a film and director’s idea, the relevance of the film in the context of the contemporary culture and for modern viewers.
2. Creative examination (written work). Comparative analysis of two short films (fiction, documentaries or animated films) watched in class.
3. Interview. Testing the general culture of an applicant. The applicant should show his or her interest in cinematography, film dramaturgy, literature, theatre, fine arts and music. Questions on the content of the portfolio of creative works.

Faculty of Television, Design and Photography

42.03.04 Television (Bachelor's Degree),
42.03.02 Journalism (Bachelor's Degree)

Creative entrance examinations:
1. Professional examination. Written creative work on one of the proposed topics (in class). An applicant is free to choose the form of presentation, for example, an essay, story, review, script, reportage, etc.
2. Creative examination (interview). Testing the general culture of an applicant. Discussion of the materials of the professional examination. At the interview, written creative work may be discussed.

42.04.04 Television (Master’s Degree)

Creative entrance examination:
Interview. The entrance examination is carried out in order to determine the personal and professional qualities of an applicant, detect the motivation for educational and research activities, identify his or her cultural outlook in the field of media communications and television.

55.05.01 Film and TV Directing

Specialization: Director of Television Films, TV Programmes
Portfolio of creative works:
Biographical reference, autobiography written in a free form. Submission of scripts, stories, essays of an applicant is possible but not obligatory. A photo-story on a topic chosen by the applicant. Personal creative video-works recorded on DVD or USB flash drive; photocopies of diplomas, certificates and other awards received at creative competitions and forums.
Creative entrance examinations:
1. Professional examination (written work). Writing a short story on the basis of the reproduction of a painting of a famous artist.
2. Creative examination (interview). Testing of directing and acting abilities: staging and performing a fable, poem, piece of prose (listed genres are mandatory). As an additional assignment, applicants may be asked to perform a sketch on a given topic to test their directing and acting skills.
3. Interview. Testing the general culture of an applicant and his or her knowledge on television, cinematography, literature, theatre, fine arts and music. Questions on the content of the portfolio of creative works and professional examination.

51.03.02 Folk Art Culture, 54.03.04 Restoration

Portfolio of creative works:
Portfolio of creative works should be emailed at the address of the Department of Photography and Folk Art Culture kafedra_photo_nhc[at]mail[dot]ru Applicant’s photo-works of different genres: artistic and documentary (portrait, nature morte and landscape are obligatory).
Autobiography written in a free form.
Creative entrance examinations:
1. Creative examination. Applicant’s practice of photography by personal digital SLR or mega zoom cameras. Shooting photos in the pavilion – portrait and nature morte. Shooting photos on location at the choice of an applicant: genre, architecture, landscape, reportage photography. Applicants print photos, choose them and prepare the examination work for submission on their own.
2. Professional examination. Testing the general culture and the horizon of an applicant, his or her knowledge on cinematography, painting, photography; history of development, artistic and technical aspects of photo art – in the form of interview. The examination includes questions about the photography as a kind of creativity and the technology of photographic process. An applicant should show the basic knowledge on the topics determined in the Programme of Entrance Examinations.

51.04.02 Folk Art Culture (Master’s Degree)

Portfolio of creative works:
Creative works designed in series of photos or a video clip. Autobiography written in a free literary form (printed, font size 14, no more than 3 pages).
Creative entrance examinations:
Professional examination. Testing the general culture and the horizon of an applicant, his or her knowledge on photography, cinematography, photo art and painting – in the form of interview. The examination includes some basic knowledge on artistic photo art. An applicant should choose a topic indicated in the Programme of Entrance Examinations and prepare a report on the chosen topic and/or a presentation.

54.05.03 Graphics, 54.03.01 Design

Creative works:
Applicant’s creative works (drawings, paintings, compositions) in original author’s performance in any graphic or painting technology (pencil, charcoal, watercolour, gouache, oil painting), in any format and in any performance technique.
Creative entrance examinations:
1. Professional examination (graphics). Writing a literary and artistic screenplay of an animated film, an applicant’s work on one of given topics.
2. Creative examination (composition on a given subject). Writing a screenplay of a screen work in a literary and artistic form on a given subject.
3. Interview. (ONLY FOR 54.05.03 GRAPHICS) Demonstration of creative solutions for the first and second written works. Questions on the content of the portfolio of creative works. Performing sketches is possible for considering alternative creative solutions.
